We’ve had some great opportunities to chat with people about Bible translation and mission over the past couple of weeks, as well as having some fun too…! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to…

Last week we were in Wiltshire speaking at a church at their monthly mission evening. It was great to share with the people there about what God is doing in the world in and throught the work of Bible translation, and to encourage them to pray for what is going on.

Then after spending a day with my parents, we drove to Hove where my sister Lizzi is working for a church. She is part of a team of 8 from the church who will be going to Malawi in a couple of weeks to run a Bible camp and to teach teenagers about God. We led a session for an hour or so trying to get them to think through some of the cultural and other differences between the UK and Africa, and how those things affect the way Africans read the Bible and approach Christianity, compared to people from the UK.

The session went really well and I think the group found it worthwhile. Now we’re looking forward to hearing how the trip goes and whether any of the things we discussed were actually helpful!

After a quick drive (not so quick at times on the M25…) back to the Wycliffe Centre, we met up with a group from a Korean Church who wanted to know more about the task of Bible translation and how they can be involved. It was a great privilege to be able to talk with them, and also good for them to hear from a couple who are currently working in central Asia.

And then a couple of days later I was able to speak briefly to a group of 50 or so students who are going overseas with Agape this summer. They were having their orientation event at the Wycliffe Centre, and wanted someone to talk to them about Bible translation, so I was more than happy to oblige!

Now I’m just looking forward to having a few days back in the office to catch up on all the exciting things that I’ve missed over the last few days…

And I should probably mention that yesterday was the quarter-century birthday of my beautiful wife. So on Thursday we went out for a walk in the lovely countryside a few miles away and a yummy scrummy lunch. Here are some photos…
